US House Design was born out of a conversation with a friend who was struggling to decide between a modern farmhouse and a traditional Victorian-style home for her new build in the Midwest. As we sat around the dinner table, pouring over design books and scrolling through websites, I realized that there was a lack of comprehensive resources that compared regional architectural styles across the United States. My friend’s question – “What’s the difference between a New England Colonial and a Southern Colonial?” – sparked an idea, and I decided to create a website that would provide answers to these types of questions and more.
Our small team of enthusiasts, including architects, designers, and homeowners, has been working tirelessly since 2016 to build a repository of information on various regional architectural styles, from the Craftsman homes of California to the Lowcountry-style homes of South Carolina. We’ve traveled across the country, attending home tours, interviewing architects and designers, and researching local building codes to gain a deeper understanding of what makes each style unique.
